Operations, maintenance & replacement brainstorming session

Mark your calendar for WPCAMR’s upcoming quarterly meeting on Thursday, November 16, 2006 from 10:00am to 2:30pm at the Eat’N'Park in Indiana, PA. This meeting will primarily be devoted to issues revolving around operations, maintenance, and replacement (OM&R) for Pennsylvania’s roughly 200 publicly funded passive treatment systems.
A particularly thorny challenge is finding and providing adequate OM&R resources to insure passive treatment systems will be able to improve waters impaired by abandoned mine drainage over the long term. Currently, Pennsylvania has no comprehensive strategy or mechanism to deal with this situation: only is a growing realization that something needs to be done. This meeting will be an opportunity for us to put our heads together in better understanding the OM&R problem and to start formulating potential strategies. Anyone having an interest in this subject is invited to attend.
To aid in the discussion, a number of documents will be made available on our website. We will continue adding documents over the next couple weeks. Other meeting materials will also be available there, including directions to the meeting. We hope to see you there.
