AMDTreat software

The Office of Surface Mining, in conjunction with Pennsylvania’s and West Virginia’s Departments of Environmental Protection, has released a new version of their AMDTreat software. AMDTreat helps calculate costs of treating abandoned mine drainage (AMD) before it pollutes streams. Given a real-world abandoned mining site, AMDTreat helps agencies and citizens to determine the most cost-effective, long-term treatment method for AMD.

AMDTreat estimates costs of constructing and operating active and passive treatment systems, costs of annual chemical reagents and maintenance, and costs of replacing existing treatment systems.

The new AMDTreat 4.1 is a beta test version, and the software’s Development Team is accepting comments and suggestions until January 19.
